Carolyn Weiss stumbled into the deli business. “We were driving to Atlantic City and saw a ‘for sale’ sign out front. So we bought it,” she recalls. That was 36 years ago. With her mother and her sister, she rolled up her sleeves and learned the deli business.
Today’s Holly City Cold Cuts & Deli is going strong, with an impressive menu of hot and cold subs, steaks, burgers, hot dogs and breakfast. They also stock basic groceries and cater events. Although her mother and sister have since passed, she’s still involved as a co-owner with her son, Chris Weiss and her nephew, Keith Sinone. “They’re the third generation,” she says.
They are always tweaking the operation to stay current. One innovation was offering pre-made sandwiches and other items for people in a hurry. Carolyn says their customers appreciate the quality of the food and the friendly service. And they really love the Value Menu of burgers, chicken nuggets, fries and tots. “Some of our regulars have been coming almost since the beginning. We watched many of them grow up,” she says
