Like many small breweries, Glasstown Brewing Company is about more than beer. It’s a community. “We work to make everyone who comes through that door feel welcome,” says Jenifer Simmons, who founded the company with her husband, Paul. “Our customers love the feel. They consider it their place,” Jen says.
Paul always wanted his own business. An avid homebrewer with a passion for craft beer, the dream became reality when Trenton allowed breweries to sell pints and containers on site. That was the game-changer that spurred a craft beer renaissance all over the state.
Affordable real estate attracted them from the shore. Once they relocated, building the brewery in Millville made sense, too. Paul started on his own and Jen joined him full time in 2016. Their commitment has paid off; the brewery just celebrated its 10th anniversary.
Today, Paul oversees production of a varied portfolio including their flagship, 609 India Pale Ale and its area code-inspired companion, 856 Double IPA. “Our customers love the Czech Pilsner, Fortescue Fisherman’s Ale and the seasonals,” Jen says. They’re particularly excited about It's A Wonderful Ale, a winter ale flavored with nutmeg, graham crackers and vanilla.
Paul and Jen are very grateful to their customers. “They’re like family. The whole community has really embraced us. It’s almost overwhelming. There are no words,” Jen says.
